What Causes a Bunion? THE REAL CAUSE! [What is a Bunion? For REAL]
🦶What causes bunions? We review what is a bunion, the REAL cause! Most people don’t really know what causes bunions!🦶
Bunions are a common foot deformity in which the big toe deviates from its normal alignment and points towards the other toes. While the exact cause of bunions is unknown, there are several factors that are believed to contribute to their development.
One of the main factors that can cause bunions is genetics. Studies have shown that there is a genetic component to bunions, meaning that they can run in families. For example, one study published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research found that a genetic variant in a gene called BMP3 was associated with an increased risk of developing bunions.
Another factor that can contribute to the development of bunions is foot structure. Individuals with flat feet or low arches may be more prone to developing bunions due to the increased pressure on the inside of the foot. Additionally, wearing tight, narrow, or high-heeled shoes can also contribute to the development of bunions by putting pressure on the toes and pushing them out of alignment.
In some cases, certain medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or neuromuscular disorders can also increase the risk of developing bunions.
Overall, while the exact cause of bunions is not fully understood, genetics, foot structure, and footwear are believed to be the main contributing factors. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice on the most appropriate treatment options for bunions.
